Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is the passive counterpart to an active practice. In a Yin class we hold a seated posture typically between 2 and 5 minutes. In this stillness we focus on the breath while finding our edge in the posture. Yin targets the connective tissues, such as the facia, ligaments, tendons, and joints of the body that normally are not exercised in a more active style of yoga practice. Suitable for all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles.

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga emphasizes relaxing and receiving. Each posture is designed to restore the body in a specific way. Typically we use props (blankets, bolsters, bricks etc.) to support us while in the pose. When our body feels supported the muscles can then relax. In this relaxed state we trigger the parasympathetic nervous system (a calming effect) and are able to find inner stillness and deep rest. This is a beneficial practice for both psychological and physical balance.
